Socialization

What is socialization and why is it so darned important?

Socialization is the process of exposing our dogs to different kinds of people, animals, and environments which involve everything from dog obedience classes to vet visits to walks in the park.

Through this process we help our dogs develop confidence and ease which goes a long way in helping them become resilient in the face of unsettling situations. And most importantly, it doesn't end with Puppyhood. It’s a lifelong process and takes consistent practice. Which means, without practice and commitment, it can be unlearned.

At Citizen Canine we place great importance on socialization. On our walks we expose the dogs to loud noises, busy streets, kids (where appropriate), grooming, meeting strangers (both human and canine), and we always allow the dogs to set their own pace and only ever use positive reinforcement.
